PATENTED TWIN FLYWHEEL TECHNOLOGY
Chipping and throwing are the two primary functions of a wood chipper. With two flywheels, we’ve been able to optimize the speed of each specific function. The chipping flywheel spins at just over 700 RPM, allowing it to chip larger material faster with the 14 HP engine. The secondary flywheel spins over 2600 RPM, letting it throw materials out faster and farther. This also significantly increases the air flow, which helps carry difficult lightweight, wet, leafy, and coniferous material smoothly through the chip stream, reducing potential build-up.
GRAVITY-ASSIST INFEED SYSTEM
The TFG55 GAS features a gravity-assist infeed system which uniquely combines a steep infeed chute angle with a 3-blade twin flywheel design, creating a steady and predictable infeed action, far superior to gravity alone. This natural material draw provides smoother, more consistent, and safer feeding. The system also optimizes infeed speed, ensuring efficient use of engine horsepower.
RELIABLE POWER SOURCE
A reliable 14 HP Command Pro Kohler electric start engine powers the TFG55 GAS. The engine features a slant cylinder design with a cast iron cylinder bore and overhead valve for easy access. The Quad-Clean 4-stage air filtration systems ensures only clean air enters the engine for maximum power and engine lifecycle. A 12V battery is required for electric start and is not included with purchase.
SIDE-HINGED INFEED CHUTE
The infeed chute is side-hinged and secured with two draw latches with a safety catch. The latches can be released to swing the infeed chute wide open, providing access to inspect the blades, to set the bed plate, and perform greasing and maintenance on the rear bearing.
ADJUSTABLE AXLE SYSTEM
The axle system is adjustable to adapt to your transport and storage requirements. In its most compact format, it’s just 33” (84 cm) wide, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces, around the yard, and ideal for convenient storage. The axle can also be expanded to 37” (94 cm) or 41” (104 cm) for increased stability when towing, providing extra support and balance behind your vehicle.
TOWING ASSEMBLIES INCLUDED
The TFG55 GAS comes equipped with a galvanized front base leg that can easily be removed and replaced with an included tow hitch assembly. This setup includes a tow bar and 2” (5 cm) ball coupler, providing compatibility with a range of towing vehicles. Additionally, upper and lower plates are included for easy conversion to a pin-style hitch, ideal for connecting the chipper to most riding lawnmowers.
EASY-ACCESS CLAMSHELL DESIGN
The TFG55 GAS features a convenient clamshell design secured by a single latch with a safety catch. When opened, the clamshell rests securely on the tire, offering full access to the flywheel and chipping blades for quick and easy maintenance.
ROTATABLE DISCHARGE CHUTE
The discharge chute on the TFG55 GAS rotates 360 degrees in 90-degree increments, allowing you to direct wood chips exactly where you need them—left, right, forward, or backward. At the end of the chute, an adjustable chip deflector lets you place chips either close to the machine or farther away, based on your requirements.
TAPERED INFEED CHUTE
The TFG55 GAS has a large 27 x 17” (69 cm x 43 cm) infeed opening that features a solid 3/4” thick steel bar around the perimeter to provide a nice soft leading edge for branches as they try and make their way down into the chute to the 5 x 5” (13 cm x 13 cm) infeed opening. We also have four handle positions to make it easy to maneuver the chipper and reposition it.
REVERSIBLE CHIPPER BLADES
The TFG55 GAS chipper utilizes 3 high-quality hardened steel reversible chipper blades. These blades be reversed to take advantage of having two cutting edges on each blade. The blades are held onto the flywheel with 3 countersunk M8 bolts. The three blades work in conjunction with a stationary bed plate located at the bottom of the infeed chute which acts as the second shearing edge as the blades pass by. The bed plate is adjustable to set the optimal gap between it and the cutting blade.
DRIVE BELT SYSTEM
Two cast iron pulleys and a series of drive belts running off the engine facilitate the two flywheel speeds. These belts are kept tight with idler wheels that have sealed bearings within them, and the tension is set with springs to keep a steady pressure on those belts and maximize service life.
MULTI-PLY TIRE ASSEMBLY
The TFG55 GAS rolls on two 15 x 11 multi-ply tires on 6” rims. The powder-coated rims include packed tapered roller bearings with a zerk fitting inside the rim to maximize service life.
DEBRIS CONTROL
Inside of the infeed chute, we’ve affixed clear curtains to the caution bar. These are to control both dust and debris to keep it going in the right direction down the infeed chute.
EMERGENCY STOP
Located at the top of the infeed chute, we have our emergency stop in anodized aluminum, which is easy to set and reset.

FAQs
We usually recommend going with the biggest chipper your tractor can handle. Start by checking the horsepower at your tractor’s PTO, then match it up with the compatible chipper models.
If your budget allows, go for the highest capacity chipper that works with your tractor's horsepower, ensuring your tractor can safely lift it. That way, you’ll be able to chip the largest material possible with the equipment you already have.
At the end of the day, the right chipper is the one that balances power, compatibility, and what you need it to handle.
Single flywheel chippers use one flywheel to both chip and throw material. That means it has to strike a balance between chipping power and airflow. It works well, but with light or leafy material, you may need to mix in heavier branches to keep it moving through the chip stream.
Our patended twin flywheel design separates the functions of chipping and throwing. One flywheel chips at the ideal speed for powerful chipping, while the second flywheel spins twice as fast to create strong airflow and throw chips farther. This allows it to handle light or leafy material more reliably, no mixing required.
Bottom line: twin flywheel means less prep, smoother operation, and better performance with all types of material.
Gas-powered wood chippers don’t need a tractor, so they’re more mobile. Many of our customers tow them behind an ATV to reach spots a tractor can’t or if they have multiple properties that the chipper will be used on. They’re great if you need flexibility and more mobility.
While gas chippers have great mobility, PTO-powered chippers typically offer more power. Running a chipper attached to your tractor means you'll have one less engine to maintain on your property. They often feature higher capacities because they're driven by your tractor's horsepower.
So the decision to choose gas or PTO power is mainly about deciding between mobility and cost, versus capacity and time saving. If you need help deciding, feel free to reach out to our customer service team and see what they suggest.
Our gravity-assist infeed system relies on the steep angle of the chute to naturally guide larger materials into the chipper, requiring you to push or assist some smaller material in. Once the material is engaged with the flywheel, the 3-blade design facilitates a smooth and consistent draw. However, the amount of effort needed to assist material in can vary depending on the type and size of what you're chipping.
On the other hand, our hydraulic infeed system features an infeed roller that actively grabs and pulls material into the chipper making for a very effiicent process. It also provides a consistent feeding action and allows all types of materials to be handled in the same way, regardless of shape, weight or size. Also featuring forward, netural and reverse feeding directions with variable speeds, this system is typically considered a superior feeding system over gravity-assist infeed systems.
Both systems are effective, and the choice often depends on budget, the types of material you expect to process most often as well as on how hands-on you'd like to be during material preparation before chipping, etc.
Many of our customers will use their wood chippers commercially, using them to chip material for their tree care businesses or to clean up neighboring properties to make some cash on the side.
We’re all for it. We love seeing our equipment help people grow their businesses and put their machines to work.
We design our chippers to be easy to use and easy to maintain. Like any machine, there are a few key things to keep an eye on:
• Bearings require regular greasing
• Belts and the bed plate should be checked and adjusted
• Blades will need sharpening or replacement over time
Your owner’s manual has a step-by-step guide, so be sure to follow that for the best results. Keeping up with routine maintenance will keep your chipper running like a champ.
Your chipper shows up mostly assembled, with just a few final steps left to get it ready. For most, it takes about two hours to finish the build.
Every step is clearly laid out in the manual, so setup’s pretty straightforward. We have invested alot of time in creating easy to follow manuals to ensure the instructions don't leave you scratching your head. Before you know it, you’ll be up and running and ready to chip.
Note: Your manual is included in the black tube on the machine and can also be viewed in PDF format here.
