turning dreams into reality
Turning a simple dream into a tangible reality becomes possible when you have the right tools and the determination to bring your vision to life. Tree Tops and Train Tracks is an 18-acre land in Wales, UK, that consists of 3 ready tree tents and 6 standard campsites. The site runs off the grid using sustainable technology and ecological techniques for all facilities.
“The Woodland Mills HM130MAX has been absolutely central to turning our vision into something tangible,” Seb says.
When Seb first started his journey with Tree Tops and Train Tracks, the goal was to create a truly authentic and sustainable Welsh getaway, one where as much as possible was built by hand, using timber sourced directly from his own land. The Woodland Mills HM130MAX made that possible!
From milling logs to full scale builds
There’s a great sense of fulfillment that comes from building everything yourself, from the ground up. Being hands-on through every stage, sourcing the timber, milling it, and turning it into something functional and lasting!
This creates a connection to the work that you simply can’t replicate any other way. It’s not just about the finished result, but the pride and satisfaction that come with knowing you made it all happen yourself.
"From day one, we’ve used it to mill our own Larch and Ash logs into a wide range of projects, says Seb. What started as a simple idea quickly grew into full-scale builds: timber frame structures, cabins, Larch cladding, outdoor kitchens, and even toilet facilities."
Seb stated, "Being able to take a tree from our land and transform it into a finished structure has been incredibly rewarding, and the Woodland Mills HM130MAX has handled every stage of that process with ease."
power, precision and durability
The Woodland Mills HM130MAX is designed for landowners who want to mill their own lumber efficiently. The 30-inch log diameter capacity and matching wide cut, make it ideal for producing live-edge slabs, beams, and dimensional lumber for a variety of projects.
One feature that stood out for Seb and his family was the extendable track system. Being able to mill logs up to 7 meters in length or even extend beyond that has opened up so many possibilities in their builds.
"It’s allowed us to take on larger structural elements without needing to compromise or outsource." Seb explains.
Having a deeper understanding of the milling process
The Woodland Mills HM130MAX is a manual mill that has proven to be a significant advantage for Seb. Its hands-on operation makes it intuitive to use while giving operators a deeper understanding of the milling process from start to finish. This direct involvement not only builds confidence but also simplifies maintenance and repairs, which are easy to manage.
For those working in remote locations and relying on their equipment daily, this level of simplicity and reliability becomes an invaluable part of the overall experience.
"The ability to mill our own timber has saved us a significant amount of money, and in many ways, the mill has paid for itself many times over. Beyond the cost savings, it’s also given us complete control over the quality and character of the materials we use, which adds something truly special to every build." explains Seb.
From a financial standpoint, being able to mill timber has led to substantial cost savings, and over time, the mill has effectively paid for itself many times over. Beyond the financial return, it also provides complete control over the quality, selection, and character of the materials being used. That level of control not only improves the end result but also adds a unique, personal element to every build, something that Seb says simply can’t be replicated with off-the-shelf lumber.
"Overall, we couldn’t be happier with the Woodland Mills HM130MAX, Seb states. It’s a reliable, capable, and incredibly rewarding piece of equipment that has allowed us to bring our ideas to life in a way that simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. We would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to take on their own timber projects, whether for personal builds, a business, or a dream like ours."
