An Afternoon With: Noah and Shawn from Slabba Dabba Doo

They quit their jobs, bought and converted an old chicken farm, and now their business mills hundreds of board feet per day. 

After talking with a friend who had a lumber business, Shawn did his own research and realized it was something that could generate enough money to quit his job. So, that’s what he did. He quit his job working for a bank and started his business with an Alaskan mill. Once things got busier, he bought himself an HM130 Portable Sawmill to make work easier and quicker. After milling over 500,000 board feet on the HM130, Shawn and his son Noah decided to upgrade to the HM136MAX Portable sawmill, and business is booming. 

At some point, they decided it was time to maximize space and efficiency. In the early days, they stored all their lumber in the woods to try top protect it from the elements, and after looking online one day, they stumbled upon the perfect property for what they needed. Not too far from where they already were was an old chicken farm for sale, with four massive barns already on the property, they knew it was perfect. So, they converted the old chicken coops into workshops and lumber storage and now have plenty of space and resources to mill hundreds of board feet per day.

One of the barns has been recently dedicated to being a timber frame workshop, where they take milled lumber and get the mortise and tenons chiseled and all the lumber squared up and ready for builds. Noah, Shawn and all the other people working at Slabba Dabba Doo know what it takes to run a successful business, and the scope of what they do is incredible.
