Andrew Needs a Professional Chainsaw Chain Sharpener. Now He Has One

The chainsaw carver says he's recommended the RCS28 PRO to fellow forestry professionals and now none of them want to go back to manual sharpening

Andrew's workshop is filled with sawdust from his work, as he tightens a fresh chain around one of his chainsaws.

As a professional chainsaw carver, he needs his tools to be sharp and ready every day, as he carves bears, cardinals and whatever his customers request daily.

"I use a variety of different saws, I think I have six to ten I'm using on a daily basis every day that need to be sharpened," says Andrew, who runs Against the Grain Outdoors with his wife Shannon.

The two recently got a Woodland Mills RCS28 PRO Chainsaw Chain Sharpener, and it's made a world of difference to their business.

"The fact I can set a chain on, still be there but still working on the carving," says Andrew. "It saves me like two hours a day, over a week, that's about 10 hours a week."

A chainsaw chain sharpener review from a pro

When Woodland Mills visited Andrew and Shannon and toured their workshop, they saw all kinds of skilled carvings that he was making for his customers.

The carver is entirely self-taught and learned how to do it after milling lumber on his Woodland Mills HM136 MAX Portable Sawmill.

The sawmill let's him mill blanks that he can use for carving using wood from his own property. He can then haul it back to his workshop using his Multilander ATV Trailer.

In his workshop he has his wall of saws which he uses regularly, all of which need regular sharpening. His usual practice is to sharpen them by hand with a hand grinder, but that took up precious hours of his workday which he could spend doing other things.

"Now I'm getting straighter cuts, more consistent cuts grinds and I'm saving hours a day," adds Andrew.

Loggers love it

Living in Lanark Highlands on Ontario, Canada, Andrew says he has a lot of logger friends who live nearby. After getting his RCS28 PRO he offered to test it by sharpening all their chainsaws, which see hours of hard use every day and require regular sharpening.

Just like Andrew they all used to sharpen their chainsaw chains by hand, but that's all changed now.

"The only downfall to owning this sharpener is now when Andrew and I come home there is chains hanging on our door because everyone wants their chains sharpened," says Shannon.

They've found once they get that consistent sharpness on every tooth, and able to get their chains back so quickly, means they're having a hard time wanting to manually sharpen their chains by hand anymore.

"They all loved it, they don't want to hand file anymore," says Andrew.
