The story of Jerry, Johnny Appleseed and an 1800’s Log Cabin
Meet Jerry. He's a Chimney Sweep from Lisbon, Ohio who has found himself with an extra special alter ego. We visited him back in October to learn more about his story, how he became Johnny Appleseed and to see his restoration of an 1800’s log cabin that was built for the widow of a man who died in the war of 1812.
A few years ago, while in the middle of restoring his 1800's log cabin that he inherited from a long-term customer of his, Jerry was asked by the city of Lisbon if he would be their next Johnny Appleseed. At first he was hesitant, he was in the middle of restoration, hardly had a roof over his head and felt like taking on such a big role would interfere with his personal life goals. But, after some thought, a conversation with his mom and insight from higher powers, Jerry decided to take on the lifetime role – and he could not have been a better fit.
Now, Jerry lives in his cabin full time with his daughter and his dog Lavender. He feels like he has a closer connection to his home since he was able to mill any extra lumber he needed on his HM130MAX Portable Sawmill using wood from the surrounding property.
Jerry now uses his mill for other projects such as his life-size Nutcrackers, or his custom-built cabin for Johnny Appleseed. And let's not forget his "larger than life" statue of his very own creation, Johnny Apple-crate.
Thank you so much Jerry for the visit and sharing your story with us, it was an amazing day!
